Oppressed must reject passivity from "summary" of Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire

The oppressed, in order to regain their humanity, must reject the passivity imposed on them by the oppressors. This passivity, which is a result of the oppressors' attempt to dehumanize the oppressed, must be resisted at all costs. By accepting their passivity, the oppressed are essentially allowing themselves to be oppressed further, perpetuating the cycle of dehumanization. Passivity keeps the oppressed from realizing their full potential and from actively participating in the transformation of their own reality. It is only through active engagement and critical consciousness that the oppressed can break free from the chains of oppression. By rejecting passivity, the oppressed can begin to see themselves as agents of change, capable of shaping their own destinies. The oppressors' goal is to keep the oppressed docile and compliant, to prevent them from questioning the status quo and challenging the oppressive systems in place. By rejecting passivity, the oppressed are reclaiming their power and asserting their right to freedom and self-determination. This rejection of passivity is a necessary step in the path towards liberation and emancipation. Passivity is not a natural state for human beings; it is imposed upon the oppressed by the oppressors in order to maintain control and dominance. By rejecting passivity, the oppressed are reclaiming their agency and asserting their humanity. It is through this rejection that the oppressed can begin to break free from the chains of oppression and work towards a more just and equitable society. In order to truly break free from the bonds of oppression, the oppressed must reject passivity and take an active role in their own liberation. This rejection of passivity is a radical act of defiance against the oppressive systems that seek to keep them in chains. It is through this rejection that the oppressed can begin to envision a new reality, one in which they are no longer relegated to the margins but are full participants in the creation of a more just and equitable world.
