Critical consciousness is the key to transforming the oppressive structures that exist in society. Without this critical awareness, individuals remain passive recipients of information and continue to perpetuate the status quo. By developing a critical consciousness, individuals are able to question the reality they live in, challenge the dominant narratives, and envision a different, more just world. Through critical consciousness, individuals are able to recognize the power dynamics at play in society and understand how they are either oppressed or oppressors.
