The people of Macondo had a difficult time distinguishing between reality and illusion. Their lives were filled with magical events and extraordinary occurrences, blurring the lines between what was real and what was not. The Buendía family, in particular, seemed to be caught in a never-ending cycle of strange and fantastical events that defied all logic and reason.
Time itself seemed to be fluid in Macondo, with events from the past constantly reemerging in the present. Memories were sometimes more vivid than reality, blurring the boundaries between the two.
