Surrendering control can lead to greater spiritual connection and peace from "summary" of One Breath at a Time by Kevin Griffin
The idea that surrendering control can bring us closer to a higher power or sense of peace is a central theme in many spiritual traditions. When we are constantly trying to control every aspect of our lives, we can become disconnected from our true selves and from the world around us. By letting go of the need to control everything, we open ourselves up to a deeper spiritual connection. In Twelve Step programs, surrender is a key principle that is emphasized as essential for recovery. It is the idea of admitting that we are powerless over our addiction or whatever else is causing us suffering, and turning our will and our lives over to a higher power. This act of surrender is not about giving up or being defeated, but rather about accepting that we cannot do it all on our own and trusting in something larger than ourselves. Surrendering control can be a difficult concept to grasp, especially for those of us who are used to being in charge or who have a strong desire to control outcomes. However, when we can let go of this need for control, we can find a sense of peace and freedom that we may not have experienced before. It is about releasing our grip on the steering wheel and allowing ourselves to be guided by something greater than ourselves. By surrendering control, we can also cultivate a sense of humility and acceptance. We can learn to trust in the process of life and to let go of our attachments to specific outcomes. This can bring us a sense of relief and ease, as we no longer have to carry the burden of trying to control everything.- Surrendering control is an invitation to trust in the unknown and to have faith that things will work out as they are meant to. It is a practice that requires courage and vulnerability, but it can ultimately lead us to a deeper sense of spiritual connection and peace.
