Acceptance of one's past actions is a key step towards forgiveness and growth from "summary" of One Breath at a Time by Kevin Griffin

To truly move forward on the path of recovery, we must first come to terms with our past actions. This means taking a long, hard look at the things we have done and accepting them for what they are. We cannot change the past, but we can change how we react to it in the present moment. By acknowledging our mistakes and owning up to them, we are able to release the burden of guilt and shame that weighs us down. Forgiveness is not about condoning or excusing our actions, but rather about letting go of the anger and resentment that we hold towards ourselves. When we forgive ourselves, we open the door to healing and growth. We allow ourselves the opportunity to learn from our mistakes and make amends where necessary. This journey towards self-acceptance and forgiveness is not easy, but it is necessary for our continued recovery. It requires courage, honesty, and humility to confront our past and make amends. Through the practice of mindfulness and meditation, we can cultivate the self-awareness and compassion needed to navigate this challenging terrain. By staying present with our thoughts and feelings, we can confront the pain and regret that may arise from our past actions. We can learn to sit with these uncomfortable emotions without being consumed by them, allowing them to pass like clouds in the sky. In this way, we can begin to see ourselves more clearly and understand the roots of our destructive behaviors. We can identify the patterns and triggers that lead us astray, and make conscious choices to break free from them. By taking responsibility for our actions and their consequences, we empower ourselves to create a new narrative for our lives.
