Masking pain with facade from "summary" of No Longer Human by 太宰治
In the depths of despair, I found solace in the act of masking my pain with a carefully constructed facade. It was a facade so convincing that even I began to believe in its authenticity. I wore a smile that never reached my eyes, spoke words that lacked sincerity, and exuded an air of confidence that was nothing but a facade. Behind this facade, I hid my true self - a self consumed by darkness and self-loathing. To the outside world, I appeared to be a model of success and happiness. But deep down, I was drowning in a sea of despair, unable to find a way out. The facade became my armor, shielding me from the harsh realities of life. It was easier to pretend than to confront the pain that lay within me. So I continued to wear my mask, even as it grew heavier and more suffocating with each passing day. But the facade was not a permanent solution. It was a temporary reprieve, a Band-Aid over a gaping wound. And as time went on, the facade began to crack, revealing the pain and suffering that lay beneath. In the end, I was left with no choice but to confront my true self - broken, lost, and alone. The facade had served its purpose, but it could no longer hide the pain that had been festering within me for so long. And so I was forced to confront the darkness that lurked within, to face the pain that I had been so desperate to hide.
