Art as solace from "summary" of No Longer Human by Osamu Dazai
Art, for me, was not just a form of expression, but a refuge from the chaos of my own mind. It was a way to escape the suffocating weight of my own thoughts, to lose myself in the beauty and order of something beyond myself. When I immersed myself in the world of art, whether through painting, writing, or music, I felt a sense of peace that I could not find anywhere else. In those moments of creation, I was able to forget the emptiness and despair that plagued me daily. The act of making something beautiful out of nothing gave me a sense of purpose, a reason to keep going when everything else seemed pointless. Art became my solace, my sanctuary from the relentless darkness that threatened to consume me. Through art, I was able to connect with something greater than myself. I found solace in the knowledge that I was a part of a larger, more profound tapestry of human experience. In the strokes of a brush or the words of a poem, I saw echoes of my own struggles and triumphs reflected back at me, reminding me that I was not alone in my pain. Art allowed me to confront my inner demons in a way that words alone could not. It was a way to externalize the turmoil within me, to give form to the shapeless void that threatened to devour me whole. In the act of creation, I found a sense of catharsis, a release from the pent-up emotions that threatened to overwhelm me.- Art was not just a hobby or a passion for me. It was a lifeline, a means of survival in a world that seemed intent on crushing me beneath its weight. In the act of creating, I found a sense of purpose and meaning that eluded me in every other aspect of my life. Art was not just something I did; it was who I was, the only thing that kept me tethered to this world.
