Jordan learns the importance of empathy and understanding from "summary" of New Kid by Jerry Craft
Throughout the story, Jordan is faced with various challenges and experiences that ultimately lead him to understand the importance of empathy and understanding towards others. At first, Jordan feels out of place at his new school, Riverdale Academy Day School, where he is one of the few students of color. He struggles to fit in and navigate the different social dynamics, often feeling isolated and misunderstood.
As Jordan interacts with his classmates, teachers, and family members, he begins to see the world from different perspectives. He realizes that everyone has their own struggles and insecurities, and that it is important to approach others with empathy and compassion. For example, he learns about the struggles of his friend Liam, who comes from a wealthy family but feels pressure to live up to his parents' expectations.
Jordan also faces instances of prejudice and discrimination, which further highlight the importance of empathy and understanding. He is unfairly judged and stereotyped because of his race, leading him to confront these biases and educate others about the harmful effects of such assumptions. Through these experiences, Jordan learns to see beyond the surface and understand the complexities of human emotions and interactions.
As Jordan opens his heart and mind to different perspectives, he begins to form meaningful connections with his classmates and find a sense of belonging at Riverdale Academy. He becomes more attuned to the feelings and experiences of others, and strives to be a supportive and empathetic friend. By the end of the story, Jordan has grown as a person and gained a deeper appreciation for the power of empathy and understanding in building meaningful relationships and fostering a sense of community.
