Jordan experiences isolation and loneliness from "summary" of New Kid by Jerry Craft
Throughout the story, Jordan often finds himself feeling alone and disconnected from those around him. He struggles to fit in at his new school, Riverdale Academy Day School, where he is one of the few students of color. Jordan’s classmates at Riverdale come from wealthy backgrounds and have different interests and experiences than he does. This disconnect makes Jordan feel isolated and like he doesn’t belong. Jordan’s feelings of loneliness are exacerbated by the microaggressions and stereotypes he experiences at school. His classmates make assumptions about him based on his race, and Jordan feels like he is constantly being judged and misunderstood. He struggles to find friends who truly understand him and his experiences, which only adds to his sense of isolation. Even at home, Jordan feels isolated. His parents have high expectations for him and want him to excel at Riverdale, but they don’t always understand the challenges he faces as a student of color in a predominantly white school. Jordan’s older brother, Drew, is away at college, leaving Jordan feeling like he has no one to turn to for support or guidance. As Jordan navigates the ups and downs of middle school, he longs for connection and understanding. He tries to find his place in the world, but often feels like an outsider looking in. Jordan’s journey to overcome his feelings of isolation and loneliness is a central theme of the story, as he learns to embrace his identity and find the strength to be true to himself.Similar Posts
