Jordan confronts his own prejudices from "summary" of New Kid by Jerry Craft

Throughout the story, Jordan is forced to confront his own prejudices as he navigates the challenges of being the new kid at Riverdale Academy Day School. At first, Jordan feels out of place and uncomfortable in this predominantly white school, where he is one of the few students of color. He struggles to fit in and often feels misunderstood by his peers and teachers. As Jordan interacts with his classmates, he begins to realize the stereotypes and biases he holds about others based on their race, social status, and interests. For example, Jordan is surprised to discover that his friend Liam, who is white and comes from a wealthy family, is not as privileged or carefree as he initially assumed. This realization challenges Jordan's preconceived notions about people from different backgrounds. As Jordan's perspective evolves, he starts to question his own judgments and assumptions. He learns to see beyond the surface and recognize the individuality and complexity of each person he encounters. Through his experiences, Jordan comes to understand the importance of empathy, open-mindedness, and inclusivity in building meaningful relationships and fostering a sense of belonging. By confronting his own prejudices, Jordan grows as a person and learns valuable lessons about acceptance, diversity, and the power of breaking down barriers. His journey of self-discovery and personal growth serves as a powerful reminder that it is essential to challenge our biases and strive for a more inclusive and equitable society.
