Cultivate a mindset of continual learning and growth from "summary" of Mindset - Updated Edition by Carol Dweck

In a growth mindset, the belief is that basic qualities can be cultivated through effort. This means that people believe their abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work. They understand that brains and talent are just the starting point. They know that a person's true potential is unknown (and unknowable); it’s impossible to foresee what can be accomplished with years of passion, toil, and training. With a growth mindset, people are more likely to thrive on challenges. They embrace new experiences, persist in the face of setbacks, and see effort as the pathway to mastery. They learn from criticism and find lessons and inspiration in the success of others. They constantly seek to improve and expand their abilities. They understand that no one has ever accomplished great things without putting in the time and effort to grow and develop their skills. In contrast, a fixed mindset is the belief that abilities are fixed traits and that talent alone creates success without effort. People with a fixed mindset tend to avoid challenges, give up easily, see effort as fruitless, ignore useful feedback, and feel threatened by the success of others. They are more concerned with proving their intelligence or talent than with learning and improving. To cultivate a growth mindset, it is important to understand that the brain is like a muscle that can be developed with practice. Just as lifting weights makes muscles stronger, challenging tasks make the brain smarter. By actively seeking out challenges, learning from failures, and embracing the idea that growth is possible, individuals can develop a mindset that allows them to achieve their full potential. By adopting a growth mindset, people can unlock their true abilities and continually learn and grow throughout their lives.
