Mental habits shape our perceptions from "summary" of Mind Over Mind by Chris Berdik

Our perceptions are not just shaped by the world outside of us; they are also shaped by our mental habits. These mental habits can either enhance or distort our perceptions, depending on how we have trained our minds to think. When we repeatedly think in a certain way, our brains form neural pathways that make it easier for us to think in that same way in the future. This means that if we have a habit of thinking negatively, our perceptions will be colored by this negative lens. Conversely, if we have a habit of thinking positively, our perceptions will be more optimistic and hopeful. Our mental habits can also influence how we interpret the world around us. For example, if we have a habit of focusing on the negative aspects of a situation, we are more likely to see only the negatives and overlook the positives. On the other hand, if we have a habit of looking for the silver lining in every situation, we are more likely to find something positive even in difficult circumstances.
  1. We can reshape our perceptions and ultimately improve our quality of life. Our mental habits are powerful tools that can either limit us or empower us, depending on how we choose to use them.
