Breaking barriers creates change from "summary" of Marathon Woman by Kathrine Switzer

In 1967, as the only woman in the Boston Marathon, I faced a barrier that many believed was insurmountable. The idea of a woman running a marathon was unheard of at the time. But by simply stepping onto the course that day, I began to challenge that deeply ingrained belief. As I ran, I could feel the eyes of the spectators on me, their surprise and disbelief palpable. Yet with every step I took, I was not just running a race - I was breaking down a barrier. The act of breaking a barrier goes beyond just the physical. It challenges the status quo and forces people to reconsider their preconceived notions. By refusing to be limited by societal expectations, I was able to pave the way for future generations of women to pursue their dreams and passions without reservation.
