Addressing social inequality was a central focus of our struggle. We understood that a society where one group dominates another can never be truly free. In South Africa, the system of apartheid entrenched social inequality in every aspect of life. It was a brutal and dehumanizing system that sought to divide us based on race and oppress the majority for the benefit of a minority. To address social inequality, we needed to dismantle apartheid and build a new, democratic society based on equality and justice. This required both political and social transformation.
