Gestures and posture can impact how others perceive us from "summary" of Linguagem Corporal by Bill Eady

In social interactions, our body language plays a crucial role in how we are perceived by others. The way we move, stand, and express ourselves through gestures can convey a multitude of messages to those around us. In fact, research has shown that nonverbal communication often carries more weight than verbal communication in shaping others' perceptions of us. Our gestures and posture can communicate confidence, power, and authority, or on the contrary, insecurity, weakness, and submissiveness. For example, standing tall with shoulders back and head held high can convey a sense of self-assuredness and assertiveness, while slouching or avoiding eye contact may signal discomfort or lack of confidence. These subtle cues can influence how others view us and can impact the outcome of social interactions. Moreover, our body language can also influence how others feel about themselves in our presence. When we adopt open and welcoming gestures, such as smiling, nodding, and maintaining eye contact, we create a positive and inviting atmosphere that encourages others to feel at ease and engaged. Conversely, closed-off gestures like crossed arms, frowning, or avoiding eye contact can create barriers and distance in communication, leading others to feel uncomfortable or disconnected.
  1. Making eye contact, and using gestures that reflect confidence and openness, we can enhance our ability to connect with others and make a positive impact in various social situations. Ultimately, mastering the language of body can help us build stronger relationships, convey our intentions effectively, and project a more confident and authentic image to the world.
