In the novel Anna Karenina, Leo Tolstoy explores the idea that happiness is a fleeting and difficult to attain state of being. Throughout the story, the characters grapple with their desires and expectations, only to find that their pursuit of happiness often leads to disappointment and despair. One of the central characters, Anna, embarks on an affair with Count Vronsky in the hopes of finding happiness outside of her marriage. However, as their relationship becomes more complicated and fraught with societal expectations, Anna finds herself trapped in a cycle of jealousy, guilt, and ultimately, unhappiness.
