Striving for perfection can hold women back from taking risks from "summary" of Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg

Many women hold themselves back from taking risks because they strive for perfection. This tendency is ingrained in us from a young age. Boys are often encouraged to be adventurous and take risks, while girls are praised for being "good" and "perfect." This cultural conditioning leads many women to fear failure and avoid taking risks that could potentially lead to mistakes. Perfectionism can be paralyzing. Women are more likely to internalize failure as a reflection of their abilities, while men often see it as an isolated incident. This fear of failure can prevent women from taking on new challenges or pursuing opportunities that may not guarantee success. As a result, women may miss out on important career advancement or personal growth opportunities. Taking risks is essential for growth and success. Without risk, there is no room for innovation or progress. Women need to overcome the fear of failure and embrace the possibility of making mistakes. It is through taking risks and learning from failures that we can ultimately achieve success and reach our full potential. We must shift our mindset from striving for perfection to embracing imperfection. It is okay to make mistakes and experience failure along the way. In fact, it is often through these failures that we learn the most and grow the most. By taking risks and being willing to fail, women can break free from the limitations of perfectionism and truly thrive in their personal and professional lives.
