The President of India is the head of the state and the supreme commander of the Indian Armed Forces. The President is elected by an electoral college consisting of the elected members of both houses of Parliament, as well as the elected members of the Legislative Assemblies of the States and Union territories. The President holds office for a term of five years, and can be re-elected for any number of terms. The President's powers and functions are outlined in the Constitution of India, which is the supreme law of the land.
