Marginalization erodes selfworth from "summary" of In the Margins by Elena Ferrante

The feeling of not belonging, of being pushed to the edges, can have a devastating effect on one's sense of self. It chips away at the foundation of self-worth, leaving behind a hollow shell of inadequacy. This erosion happens slowly, almost imperceptibly, as each interaction reinforces the belief that one is not worthy of respect or consideration. Every dismissive glance, every condescending remark, adds another layer to the armor of self-doubt. Marginalization breeds a sense of powerlessness, a feeling that one's voice doesn't matter, that one's existence is inconsequential. It creates a cycle of self-fulfilling prophecies, where the marginalized individual internalizes the negative messages they receive from society.
