Embrace simplicity to find contentment from "summary" of Ikigai (इकिगाई) by Keira Miki

In our modern world, we are constantly bombarded with messages telling us that we need more in order to be happy. We are encouraged to seek out material possessions, achievements, and status symbols in the pursuit of contentment. However, the truth is that true contentment can often be found in embracing simplicity. When we simplify our lives, we free ourselves from the burden of excess. We learn to appreciate the beauty in the mundane, finding joy in everyday moments rather than constantly chasing after the next big thing. This shift in mindset allows us to focus on what truly matters, leading to a deeper sense of fulfillment and peace. Simplicity also brings clarity to our lives. When we strip away the unnecessary distractions, we are able to see things more clearly and make decisions with greater ease. We are able to prioritize what is truly important to us, letting go of what no longer serves us. This clarity allows us to live with intention and purpose, rather than being pulled in a hundred different directions. By embracing simplicity, we are able to cultivate a sense of contentment that is not dependent on external circumstances. We learn to find joy in the little things, appreciating the present moment for what it is. This contentment is not fleeting or temporary, but rather a deep-seated sense of peace that stays with us regardless of what is happening in the world around us. In a world that is constantly pushing us to do more, be more, and have more, embracing simplicity can be a radical act of self-care. It is a conscious choice to opt out of the cycle of consumption and to find happiness in the things that truly matter. When we simplify our lives, we open ourselves up to a world of possibility and contentment that is always within our reach.
