Taking action against racism from "summary" of How to Be an Antiracist by Ibram X. Kendi
To be antiracist is to take action against racism. It is not enough to simply be non-racist or to claim that one is not racist. In order to truly combat racism, one must actively work against it in all aspects of life. This includes recognizing and acknowledging one's own biases and prejudices, as well as actively working to dismantle systems of oppression that perpetuate racism. Taking action against racism requires a commitment to continuous self-reflection and growth. It means constantly challenging and unlearning ingrained beliefs and behaviors that contribute to racism. This process can be uncomfortable and challenging, but it is necessary in order to create meaningful change. In addition to personal growth, taking action against racism also involves advocating for systemic changes that address the root causes of racism. This may involve supporting policies and initiatives that promote equity and justice for marginalized communities, as well as actively speaking out against racism in all its forms. One must be willing to confront and address racism wherever it exists, whether it be in one's workplace, community, or personal relationships. This may involve having difficult conversations with friends, family members, or colleagues about their own biases and prejudices, and working to educate and challenge them to do better.- Taking action against racism is an ongoing and lifelong commitment. It requires dedication, courage, and persistence in the face of adversity. By actively working to combat racism in all its forms, one can contribute to creating a more equitable and just society for all.
