It's not hard to see how self-imposed limitations based on gender can be harmful. When we tell boys not to cry, we're telling them to suppress their emotions, to bottle up their feelings until they explode. When we tell girls to be polite and accommodating, we're telling them to prioritize others' needs over their own. These limitations, enforced by society's expectations, can have serious consequences. Boys grow up unable to express their vulnerability, leading to a lifetime of emotional repression. Girls grow up putting others first, neglecting their own desires and needs.
