Emotions are valid from "summary" of Hello Cruel World by Kate Bornstein

Emotions are valid. That's a simple fact. You feel what you feel, and that's okay. It's not about whether your emotions are right or wrong, good or bad. They just are. They're a part of you, and they deserve to be acknowledged and respected. So many people go through life trying to suppress their emotions, to push them down and pretend they don't exist. But that's not healthy. Emotions are a natural and essential part of being human. They can be messy and complicated, but that's okay. That's just how they are. When we deny our emotions, we deny a part of ourselves. We cut ourselves off from our own experience, from our own truth. It's like trying to hold back the tide – it's impossible, and it just leads to more pain and confusion. Acknowledging your emotions doesn't mean you have to act on them. It just means recognizing them for what they are – a valid and important part of your inner life. By accepting your emotions, you can begin to understand them better, to see where they're coming from and what they might be trying to tell you. It's not always easy to sit with your emotions, especially when they're painful or intense. But avoiding them or trying to numb yourself to them only makes things worse in the long run. Emotions have a way of demanding to be heard, and if you don't listen, they'll find other, often less healthy, ways to make themselves known. So take a deep breath, and remember – your emotions are valid. They're not something to be afraid of or ashamed of. They're a part of you, and they deserve your compassion and understanding. Embrace them, and let them guide you towards a more authentic and fulfilling life.
