In one study, I found that having a growth mindset was linked to greater perseverance in the face of setbacks — that is, grit. Those with a growth mindset believe that they can improve with effort. They outperform those with a fixed mindset, even when they have a lower IQ, because they embrace challenges, treating them not as a sign of their lack of ability, but as an opportunity to learn and improve.
