Pip faces betrayal and deception from those he trusts from "summary" of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens - Delphi Classics (Illustrated) by Charles Dickens

Throughout the story, Pip experiences numerous instances of betrayal and deception by individuals he considers his close confidants. One of the prime examples of this occurs when Pip's sister, Mrs. Joe, is attacked and left unable to speak. Pip believes that the attack was orchestrated by a convict named Magwitch, who he had helped in the past. As a result, Pip feels a sense of betrayal and deception from Magwitch, who he had shown kindness to. Furthermore, Pip's expectations are shattered when he discovers that his benefactor, Mr. Jaggers, is not the source of his newfound wealth. Instead, he learns that his true benefactor is the convict Magwitch, the same man who had caused his sister's attack. This revelation is a harsh blow to Pip, as he had placed his trust in Mr. Jaggers and had believed him to be a reliable and honest figure. The deception leaves Pip feeling disillusioned and betrayed by those he had trusted. In addition, Pip's romantic feelings for Estella, who he believes to be his beloved, are shattered when he learns that she is the daughter of Magwitch, the convict. This revelation adds another layer of betrayal and deception to Pip's experiences, as he realizes that Estella is not the pure and innocent figure he had envisioned her to be. The discovery of Estella's true identity leads Pip to question his beliefs and assumptions about the people around him, further deepening his sense of betrayal.
