Pip experiences the highs and lows of fortune from "summary" of Great Expectations by Charles Dickens - Delphi Classics (Illustrated) by Charles Dickens

Throughout the narrative, Pip is shown to undergo a series of fluctuations in his circumstances, experiencing both moments of success and failure. At the start of the story, Pip is a poor orphan living with his sister and her husband, Joe Gargery, the blacksmith. His life takes a dramatic turn when he encounters the convict, Magwitch, in the marshes. This event sets in motion a chain of events that will ultimately lead Pip to his "great expectations."As Pip grows older, he is taken under the wing of the mysterious Miss Havisham, who introduces him to her beautiful but cold-hearted ward, Estella. Pip falls in love with Estella, but she remains indifferent to his affections. Despite this setback, Pip continues to dream of becoming a gentleman and winning Estella's love. Pip's fortunes change dramatically when he is informed that an unknown benefactor has left him a substantial inheritance. Suddenly, Pip finds himself elevated to a higher social class, with the means to pursue his dreams of becoming a gentleman. However, this newfound wealth does not bring him the happiness he had imagined. Pip becomes estranged from his family and friends, and his relationship with Joe suffers as a result. As Pip delves deeper into the source of his fortune, he discovers that his benefactor is none other than Magwitch, the convict he had helped many years ago. This revelation shatters Pip's illusions of grandeur and forces him to confront the reality of his situation. In the end, Pip learns the true value of friendship, loyalty, and love, as he comes to terms with the highs and lows of his fortune.
