Main character makes difficult decisions from "summary" of Godan by Munshi Premchand

The protagonist of 'Godan', Hori, finds himself constantly faced with difficult decisions throughout the course of the story. From the very beginning, he is portrayed as a simple, honest farmer who is struggling to make ends meet. Despite his lack of material wealth, Hori is a man of integrity and principles, which often puts him at odds with those around him. One of the major decisions that Hori is forced to make is whether or not to take a loan from the village moneylender, Sukhilala, in order to buy a cow. Hori knows that taking a loan from Sukhilala will only lead to further debt and servitude, but he also knows that without a cow, his family will continue to suffer.
