In the world of 1984, the past is constantly being altered, erased, and rewritten to ensure that the Party remains in power, unchallenged and unquestioned. Winston, the protagonist of the novel, works at the Ministry of Truth, where he is tasked with falsifying historical documents and records. He is part of a vast propaganda machine that churns out lies and misinformation on a daily basis. The Party's slogan, "Who controls the past controls the future: who controls the present controls the past," encapsulates the essence of their manipulation of history.
