Hinduism perpetuates social inequalities from "summary" of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Writings and Speeches: Philosophy of Hinduism ; India and the pre-requisites of communism ; Revolution and counter-revolution ; Buddha or Karl Marx by Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar,Vasant Moon
The Hindu religion, as it is practiced in India, has been deeply ingrained with the idea of social hierarchy. This hierarchy, known as the caste system, divides people into different social classes based on their birth. Those at the top of the caste system enjoy privileges and power, while those at the bottom are subjected to discrimination and oppression. This system has been perpetuated for centuries, with the dominant castes using religion to justify their superiority and maintain their control over society. The concept of karma in Hinduism further reinforces social inequalities by suggesting that one's position in society is predetermined by their actions in past lives. This belief serves as a convenient explanation for why some people are born into privilege while others are born into poverty and oppression. It absolves the dominant castes of any responsibility for the suffering of the lower castes, portraying their plight as the result of their own actions in previous lives. Moreover, Hindu scriptures and religious texts have been used to uphold the caste system and justify the subjugation of certain sections of society. The Manusmriti, an ancient Hindu legal text, explicitly outlines the duties and privileges of each caste, with harsh punishments prescribed for those who dare to challenge the established social order. This text, along with other religious texts, has been used to legitimize the oppression of marginalized communities and maintain the status quo. The perpetuation of social inequalities in Hinduism has had far-reaching consequences for Indian society. It has led to the marginalization and discrimination of Dalits, Adivasis, and other oppressed communities, denying them basic human rights and opportunities for social mobility. This has created a deeply divided society, where those at the bottom of the social hierarchy are denied access to education, employment, and political representation.- Hinduism perpetuates social inequalities by legitimizing the caste system, justifying the oppression of marginalized communities, and denying them equal rights and opportunities. This has created a deeply unjust society where social mobility is restricted, and certain sections of the population are condemned to a life of poverty and discrimination. The perpetuation of these social inequalities in the name of religion is a grave injustice that must be confronted and challenged in order to create a more just and equitable society.
