Doubt everything from "summary" of Discourse on the Method and the Meditations by Rene Descartes

It is necessary, once in the course of our life, to doubt, as far as possible, of all things. We should not believe anything with too much assurance, if we want to find something that is certain. I set out to doubt everything that I had ever believed to be true. I realized that many of the beliefs I held were not based on solid foundations. I found that much of what I thought I knew was merely inherited from others or accepted without question. This doubt was not a sign of weakness, but rather a strength. It allowed me to strip away the layers of uncertainty and get to the core of what was truly certain. By doubting everything, I was able to start from a clean slate. I questioned the existence of the physical world, of my own body, of the very thoughts in my mind. I even doubted the existence of a benevolent God. I realized that if I could doubt everything, then I could also doubt the very act of doubting itself. This realization was both liberating and terrifying.
