Reframe your mindset to view life as a design project from "summary" of Designing Your Life by Bill Burnett,Dave Evans
When we talk about life as a design project, we are not suggesting that life is something to be solved or fixed. Rather, we are proposing that life is something to be created, just like a designer creates a product or a service. Design thinking, the process that designers use to create something new, can be applied to our own lives to help us navigate through the uncertainties and complexities that we encounter. Embracing life as a design project means approaching it with a sense of curiosity and experimentation, rather than fear and limitation. It involves seeing our lives as open-ended, with endless possibilities for growth and change. Just as a designer prototypes various versions of a product before finalizing the design, we can experiment with different paths, goals, and strategies in our own lives. By reframing our mindset in this way, we can become more proactive in shaping our own destinies. Instead of passively accepting the circumstances that life throws at us, we can actively design our lives to align with our values, interests, and aspirations. This process requires us to be intentional about our choices, to reflect on what truly matters to us, and to take action towards creating the life we desire. Designing our lives also involves embracing failure and iteration as natural parts of the process. Just as a designer learns from failed prototypes and uses that knowledge to improve the next iteration, we can learn from our setbacks and use them as opportunities for growth and learning. This mindset shift can help us to overcome the fear of failure and embrace uncertainty as a necessary part of the creative process.- Viewing life as a design project empowers us to take ownership of our own narratives and to become active participants in shaping our own futures. It encourages us to approach challenges with a sense of creativity, resilience, and optimism, knowing that we have the power to design a life that is fulfilling, meaningful, and true to who we are.
