Selfidentity is shaped by cultural influences from "summary" of Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner
Growing up in a household where my father was Korean and my mother was white, I was constantly navigating between two different worlds. The clash of cultures was ever-present in my life, shaping my sense of identity in unique ways. From the food we ate to the language we spoke at home, every aspect of my upbringing was a blend of Korean and American influences. My mother, who was not Korean, tried her best to embrace my father's culture and pass it on to me. She would cook Korean dishes, teach me about Korean traditions, and encourage me to embrace my Korean heritage. However, despite her efforts, I often felt like I didn't quite fit in with either culture. I was too Korean for my American friends, but not Korean enough for my Korean relatives. As I grew older, I began to realize the impact that my cultural background had on my sense of self. I found solace in the music of my father's homeland, connecting with the emotions and stories that were woven into each song. I also found comfort in the flavors of Korean cuisine, seeking out familiar dishes that reminded me of home. Despite the challenges of navigating between two cultures, I came to embrace the unique blend of Korean and American influences that shaped my identity. I learned to appreciate the richness of my heritage and the complexities of being a product of two worlds. In the end, I realized that my cultural influences were not a source of conflict, but rather a source of strength and resilience.Similar Posts
