Our brains, marvelous though they may be, have not evolved as quickly as the technology that now inundates them. The brain is a slow learner, and it still operates much as it did when we roamed the savannahs in search of food. It is not built for the fifty-to-sixty-hour work weeks that have become the norm in high-tech companies. Nor is it built for the incessant ping of emails, text messages, and social media notifications that demand our attention at all hours of the day.
