Ordinary citizens bear the brunt of corruption from "summary" of Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, 3rd Edition by John Perkins

The impact of corruption is not felt equally by all members of society. It is the ordinary citizens who suffer the most from the consequences of corrupt practices. While the wealthy and powerful may benefit from corruption in the short term, it is the average person who bears the long-term costs. When corrupt deals are made behind closed doors, it is the everyday people who are left to deal with the fallout. They are the ones who must contend with crumbling infrastructure, inadequate public services, and a lack of basic necessities. While the elite enjoy luxury lifestyles, the majority of the population struggles to make ends meet. Corruption undermines the social contract between the government and its citizens. When public officials prioritize their own interests over the needs of the people, trust in the system erodes. Ordinary citizens become disillusioned with the government and feel powerless to effect change. The cycle of corruption perpetuates inequality and perpetuates poverty. As resources are siphoned off for personal gain, the most vulnerable members of society are left without the support they need to thrive. Education, healthcare, and job opportunities are compromised, leaving ordinary citizens trapped in a cycle of deprivation. The true cost of corruption is measured in human suffering. When those in power abuse their positions for personal gain, it is the ordinary citizens who pay the price. Their hopes for a better future are dashed, their dreams remain unfulfilled, and their potential is squandered. The burden of corruption falls heaviest on those least able to bear it.
