"Confessions of an Economic Hit Man" is a memoir by John Perkins, in which he exposes his work as a highly paid consultant to the U.S. government and multinational corporations. In the book, Perkins reveals how he was hired to convince developing countries to take on large loans from institutions like the World Bank and IMF, with the knowledge that they would be unable to repay them. This would then allow the U.S. to gain control over the resources and economies of these countries. As Perkins grows increasingly disillusioned with his work, he decides to speak out about the corrupt practices of economic hit men and the damaging impact of global capitalism. The third edition of the book includes updated information on the consequences of the economic hit man system and offers suggestions for how individuals can work towards creating a more sustainable and equitable global economy.
