Be patient with yourself from "summary" of Catching the Big Fish by David Lynch

It's important to remember that ideas come in many different forms and at different times. Sometimes they come right away, fully formed and easy to grab hold of. Other times, they're more like elusive fish swimming just beneath the surface of the water, darting away whenever you get close. We can't force ideas to come to us any more than we can force a fish to jump into our boat. We have to be patient, to wait and watch and be ready for when the idea finally decides to reveal itself.
