Let go of comparisons from "summary" of Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies by Tara Schuster

Comparisons are a sneaky thief of joy. When we compare ourselves to others, we are essentially saying, “I am not good enough as I am.” We are looking outside of ourselves for validation, for proof that we measure up. But the truth is, we will never find true happiness in comparing ourselves to others. Because there will always be someone smarter, richer, prettier, or more successful than us. When we let go of comparisons, we free ourselves from the prison of constantly feeling inadequate. Instead of looking at others and feeling envious or unworthy, we can shift our focus inward. We can appreciate our own unique qualities, talents, and strengths. We can embrace our flaws and imperfections, knowing that they are what make us human. Letting go of comparisons also allows us to cultivate a sense of gratitude for what we have. When we stop looking at what others have and start appreciating what we have, we can find contentment in the present moment. We can see the beauty in our own lives, rather than constantly chasing after what we think we lack. By releasing the need to compare ourselves to others, we can start to live authentically. We can pursue our own goals and dreams, without being swayed by what others are doing. We can make choices that align with our values and desires, rather than trying to fit into someone else’s mold.
  1. Letting go of comparisons is a powerful act of self-love. It is a declaration that we are enough just as we are. It is a recognition that our worth does not depend on how we stack up against others. It is a commitment to honoring ourselves and our journey, without constantly looking over our shoulder at what everyone else is doing.
