In the society depicted in 'Brave New World', the pursuit of happiness and stability has resulted in the suppression of individuality and free will. The citizens are conditioned from birth to conform to societal norms, to unquestioningly accept their assigned roles, and to prioritize the collective good over personal desires. This control is maintained through a combination of genetic engineering, psychological conditioning, and the use of recreational drugs to keep the populace docile and content. The World State in the novel has eliminated the need for families, emotions, and personal relationships, replacing them with a strictly regulated system of social organization. The citizens are encouraged to engage in promiscuous sexual activities and to consume mass-produced goods and entertainment as distractions from any feelings of discontent or rebellion.
