Confidence is often conveyed through body language from "summary" of Body Language by J. Wolf

One of the key principles of nonverbal communication is the idea that our body language can often reveal more about our feelings and attitudes than our words. This concept is especially true when it comes to the display of confidence. Individuals who exude confidence typically engage in specific behaviors and gestures that convey their self-assurance to others. One of the most common ways in which confidence is communicated through body language is through posture. Confident individuals tend to stand or sit up straight, with their shoulders back and their head held high. This open and upright posture signals to others that they are secure in themselves and their abilities. In contrast, individuals who lack confidence may slouch or hunch their shoulders, giving off an air of insecurity. Another important aspect of confident body language is eye contact. Confident individuals are not afraid to make and maintain eye contact with others. This direct gaze signals that they are attentive and engaged in the interaction, and that they are not afraid to be seen. On the other hand, individuals who are insecure or unsure of themselves may avoid eye contact or look away frequently, signaling their discomfort or lack of confidence. Gestures and facial expressions also play a significant role in conveying confidence through body language. Confident individuals often use expansive gestures and have relaxed facial expressions. They may smile, nod, or use hand gestures to emphasize their points. These nonverbal cues signal to others that they are comfortable and at ease in the situation. In contrast, individuals who lack confidence may fidget, frown, or have tense facial expressions, indicating their nervousness or discomfort.
  1. The way in which we carry ourselves and express ourselves nonverbally can have a significant impact on how others perceive our level of confidence. By paying attention to our body language and making subtle adjustments, we can project a more confident image to the world around us.
