Embrace uncertainty from "summary" of Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott

One of the most important things to remember when it comes to writing is that uncertainty is part of the process. It's easy to get caught up in the idea that everything has to be perfect from the beginning, that you have to have all the answers before you even start. But the truth is, writing is messy and unpredictable. You have to be willing to embrace that uncertainty, to accept that you won't always know where your words will take you. When you sit down to write, you're entering into a world of unknowns. You might have an idea of where you want to go, but you can never be entirely sure how you'll get there. And that's okay. In fact, it's more than okay – it's necessary. Embracing uncertainty means being open to the unexpected, to the twists and turns that your writing might take. It means being willing to let go of control and allow yourself to be surprised by what emerges on the page. Uncertainty can be scary. It can make you doubt yourself, question whether you're on the right path. But it can also be liberating. It can free you from the constraints of perfectionism, from the pressure to have it all figured out. When you embrace uncertainty, you give yourself permission to take risks, to explore new ideas, to push beyond your comfort zone. You allow yourself to be vulnerable, to make mistakes, to learn and grow from them. So don't be afraid of uncertainty. Embrace it. Lean into it. Trust that the process of writing is a journey, not a destination. And remember that it's okay not to have all the answers – sometimes, the most interesting stories are the ones that surprise even the writer. By embracing uncertainty, you open yourself up to endless possibilities, to the magic of creation. So go ahead, dive in, and see where your words will take you.
