Finding balance in life from "summary" of Bhagavad Gita by Stephen Mitchell

In the midst of life’s challenges and responsibilities, it is essential to find equilibrium. Just as a skilled archer must balance the tension of the bowstring to hit the target accurately, we must balance the various aspects of our lives in order to live harmoniously. This balance involves navigating the dualities of existence – pleasure and pain, success and failure, joy and sorrow. When we are able to maintain this balance, we are better equipped to deal with the ups and downs of life with equanimity. We are neither overwhelmed by success nor defeated by failure. Instead, we remain steady and focused, like a mountain unmoved by the winds of change. This sense of inner stability allows us to navigate life’s challenges with grace and resilience. Finding balance in life also means recognizing our interconnectedness with the world around us. Just as a wave is part of the ocean, we are part of a larger cosmic order. When we understand this interconnectedness, we can act in alignment with the greater good, rather than being driven by selfish desires or egoistic ambitions. In the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna teaches the warrior Arjuna the importance of finding balance in the midst of conflict and chaos. He encourages Arjuna to act selflessly, without attachment to the fruits of his actions. By letting go of personal desires and surrendering to the greater good, Arjuna is able to find peace amidst the turmoil of battle.
