The Dream is not a reality for me, because I am a black man in America. For me, the Dream is a distant mirage, shimmering on the horizon but forever out of reach. It is a false promise, a cruel joke played on those who look like me. I have seen the Dream in action, seen it destroy lives and crush spirits. I have seen how it lures black people into believing that if they work hard enough, if they play by the rules, they can achieve success and prosperity. But I know that this is a lie, a myth perpetuated by those who benefit from the status quo.
