Bones of skull from "summary" of Bd Chaurasia's Human Anatomy, Volume 1 by B. D. Chaurasia
The skull is comprised of several bones which protect the brain and support various structures of the head. These bones include the cranium, which encloses the brain, and the facial bones, which house the eyes, nose, and mouth. The cranium is made up of eight bones, including the frontal bone at the front of the skull, the parietal bones on either side, the temporal bones at the sides and base, the occipital bone at the back, the sphenoid bone at the base, and the ethmoid bone between the eyes. The frontal bone forms the forehead and roof of the eye sockets, while the parietal bones create the top and sides of the skull. The temporal bones house the ears and form part of the base of the skull, along with the occipital bone which supports the back of the head. The sphenoid bone contributes to the base of the skull and connects with several other bones, while the ethmoid bone sits between the eyes and forms part of the nasal cavity. The facial bones include the nasal bone, which forms the bridge of the nose, the maxilla bones which house the upper teeth and support the cheeks, the zygomatic bones which create the prominence of the cheeks, the mandible bone which holds the lower teeth and forms the jaw, the palatine bones which help form the roof of the mouth, the lacrimal bones which house the tear ducts, the inferior nasal conchae bones which support the nasal cavity, and the vomer bone which forms part of the nasal septum. These bones work together to protect the brain and support the structures of the head, allowing for various functions such as chewing, speaking, and breathing. Understanding the bones of the skull is essential for studying human anatomy and grasping the complexity of the head and neck region.Similar Posts
