This illusion of separateness gives rise to all kinds of suffering, as we struggle to protect and defend this false sense of self. We become attached to our desires, fears, and attachments, which only serve to reinforce our belief in the reality of our ego. As long as we are identified with the ego, we will continue to experience suffering and separation. The ego is like a veil that covers our true nature, preventing us from experiencing the oneness of all creation.
