Environment plays a crucial role in shaping habits from "summary" of Atomic Habits (Malayalam) by James Clear

The environment in which you live shapes your habits more than you might realize. Every habit is initiated by a cue, and the most common cue is the environment you are in. Your brain is constantly scanning the world around you for signals of how to act. Your physical surroundings often act as cues that prompt certain behaviors. For example, if you have junk food easily accessible in your kitchen, you are more likely to indulge in unhealthy snacking. On the other hand, if you keep healthy snacks visible and easily reachable, you are more likely to make better food choices. Your environment also influences your habits through social norms. We tend to imitate the behaviors of those around us, especially if we respect or admire them. If you surround yourself with people who have good habits, you are more likely to adopt those habits yourself. Conversely, if you spend time with people who have bad habits, you may find yourself being influenced to engage in those behaviors as well. The layout of your environment can also make certain habits more convenient than others. For instance, if you want to start exercising regularly, having your workout clothes laid out the night before can make it easier to get started in the morning. Small changes to your environment can have a big impact on your habits. By designing your environment to make good habits easier and bad habits more difficult, you can set yourself up for success. To change your habits, you must first change your environment. Make the cues for your desired habits obvious and easily accessible. Remove or hide cues that trigger unwanted behaviors. Surround yourself with people who embody the habits you want to cultivate. By taking control of your environment, you can take control of your habits.
