Finding courage to be authentic from "summary" of Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
In a world that often demands conformity, it takes immense courage to be true to oneself. To embrace your authentic self, flaws and all, requires a bravery that many struggle to find. Aristotle and Dante, the two teenage protagonists of the novel, embark on a journey of self-discovery that ultimately leads them to confront their true identities. Aristotle, or Ari as he is known, grapples with his emotions and struggles to express his true feelings. Bottling up his emotions and burying his thoughts deep within himself, Ari finds it difficult to be open and honest with those around him. He fears judgment and rejection, causing him to hide behind a facade of toughness and indifference. However, as he forms a deep friendship with Dante, Ari begins to see the value in vulnerability and honesty. On the other hand, Dante is unabashedly himself, unafraid to show his emotions and speak his mind. He is open about his thoughts and feelings, unafraid of the consequences of his authenticity. Dante's willingness to be true to himself inspires Ari to confront his own fears and insecurities, pushing him to find the courage to do the same. Through their friendship and the challenges they face together, Ari and Dante discover that being authentic means being true to oneself, even when it is difficult or frightening. It means embracing all aspects of who you are, both the light and the dark. It means standing tall in the face of adversity and remaining steadfast in your beliefs and values.- Ari and Dante learn that true courage lies in being true to oneself. It is in accepting and embracing their identities that they find a sense of peace and fulfillment. Ultimately, their journey teaches them that authenticity is not just about being true to others, but about being true to oneself.
