Society's complacency allows authoritarianism to thrive from "summary" of Animal Farm by George Orwell by George Orwell
The animals on Animal Farm had once rebelled against the oppressive rule of Mr. Jones, the human farmer. They had high hopes of creating a society where every animal would be equal and free. However, as time passed, they began to see the emergence of a new form of tyranny under the leadership of the pigs, particularly Napoleon. Despite the signs of corruption and abuse of power, the other animals remained passive and complacent. The pigs, who initially shared the vision of equality, gradually started to manipulate and control the other animals through propaganda and fear tactics. They altered the commandments of Animalism to suit their own interests and mislead the others. The animals, instead of questioning these changes, chose to turn a blind eye and accept the new rules imposed upon them. The complacency of the animals allowed Napoleon to consolidate his power and establish himself as the supreme leader of Animal Farm. He used force and intimidation to suppress any form of dissent or opposition. The other animals, afraid of the consequences, remained silent and obedient, even when they witnessed injustices and atrocities committed by the pigs. As the pigs became more authoritarian and oppressive, the animals found themselves living under a regime reminiscent of the human tyrants they had overthrown. The once-cherished ideals of equality and freedom were replaced by a system where some animals were more equal than others. The complacency of the animals enabled this transformation to take place without much resistance. In the end, the animals realized too late the consequences of their apathy and indifference. They had allowed authoritarianism to thrive on Animal Farm by failing to challenge the abuse of power and corruption within their own ranks. The complacency of society had paved the way for tyranny to reign, leading to a society that was far from the utopia they had envisioned.Similar Posts
