Aeneas seeks guidance from the Sibyl from "summary" of Aeneid by Virgil,Frederick Ahl
In the city of Cumae, Aeneas seeks guidance from the Sibyl, a prophetess endowed with divine knowledge. She resides in a vast cave that serves as the entrance to the underworld. Aeneas approaches her with humility, recognizing her power and wisdom. He pleads with her to assist him in his quest to visit his father in the underworld.
The Sibyl, aware of Aeneas' destiny as a Trojan hero and the challenges he faces, agrees to help him. However, she warns him that the journey will not be easy and that he must be prepared to face trials and tribulations. Aeneas, undeterred by her caution, expresses his determination to continue on his path, no matter the obstacles.
The Sibyl then instructs Aeneas on the rituals he must perform in order to gain entry into the underworld. She tells him that he must first find the golden bough, a sacred tree that grows in the nearby forest. This bough is a symbol of his fate and will grant him access to the underworld.
Aeneas follows the Sibyl's instructions and embarks on a dangerous journey to find the golden bough. Along the way, he encounters various challenges and tests his courage and resolve. With the help of his companions, he eventually locates the bough and returns to the Sibyl, ready to begin his descent into the underworld.
The Sibyl leads Aeneas through the gates of the underworld, where he is greeted by the spirits of the dead. He meets his father, Anchises, who reveals to him the future of his descendants and the glory that awaits them. Aeneas is deeply moved by this vision and gains a newfound sense of purpose and determination to fulfill his destiny as the founder of Rome.
