After enduring many hardships at sea, Aeneas, the Trojan hero, finally finds himself on the shores of Carthage. There, he is welcomed by Queen Dido, the magnificent ruler of the city. Dido, moved by Aeneas' tale of woe and his noble lineage, offers him and his men refuge within her court.
Aeneas, grateful for Dido's generosity, accepts her hospitality and becomes a guest in her opulent palace.
