Pursue what is meaningful, not what is expedient from "summary" of 12 Regras para a Vida by Jordan B.peterson
The world is a complex place, full of opportunities and challenges. It is easy to get lost in the sea of choices that confront us every day. Should we take the easy path, the one that promises immediate rewards and gratification? Or should we choose the harder road, the one that demands sacrifice and effort but ultimately leads to a more meaningful and fulfilling life? When we pursue what is expedient, we are driven by our immediate desires and impulses. We seek instant gratification, even if it comes at the cost of our long-term well-being. This can lead to a life of shallow pleasures and superficial accomplishments, leaving us feeling empty and unfulfilled. On the other hand, when we pursue what is meaningful, we are guided by our deepest values and aspirations. We are willing to make sacrifices and endure hardship in the service of a higher purpose. This may require us to confront our fears and limitations, to step out of our comfort zone and face the unknown. But in doing so, we discover our true strengths and potential, and find a sense of purpose and fulfillment that transcends the fleeting pleasures of the moment.- Discipline, and a willingness to embrace uncertainty and ambiguity. But it is ultimately the path that leads to a life of meaning and significance, a life that is worth living. So let us not be swayed by the allure of expedience, but instead strive to pursue what truly matters, even if it means taking the harder road.
